Example of Implemented Nature-Based Solution:
Towards the promotion of Nature Based Solutions, Strovolos Municipality has focused on improving a green public area near to the Pedieos linear park for attracting and enhancing pollinators. The right type of vegetation was selected, in order to achieve connectivity and assist the pollinators to flourish in an urban environment. In addition, a series of display signs, information signs and notice boards about the different plants have been added within the NBS pilot which provide information related to:
- Nature-based solutions
- The different plants and trees
- Pollinators and their importance
The aim is that the NBS pilot will also be used for educational purposes, with events organised with schools and other organisations. To facilitate this, paving has been installed throughout the site that allows the public to get close to the plants and trees, as well as benches to further promote congregation of the public at the site.
