One of the initiatives that will be carried out within the URBAN GreenUP project, an international initiative of the European H2020 programme, which seeks to “renaturalise” cities in order to fight climate change.
This project involves the installation of vegetable awnings in Santa María Street, in Valladolid. This is a green infrastructure roof with a stretched textile material in which a substrate with vegetable seeds will be placed so that they grow in the support itself. The awnings, about 4 meters on each side, will be anchored to the facade of the buildings.
Reducing pollution, combating the heat island effect and lowering the temperature are the environmental benefits sought by the intervention; as for the social benefits, it aims to improve the quality of life of residents and passers-by, and also to bring economic benefits to the area, by boosting its commercial activity.
